Kyle
This is the sixth commission piece I have completed in the past six weeks since my joint (drawing thumb) replacement surgery in April. It has been a long, arduous recovery, riddled with the fear that I would not regain full use of my hand. I am happy to say that my hand is 200 times better now than it was pre-surgery. The joint in my thumb was completely down to bone on bone, constant pain. Now I have virtually no pain. My drawing skills really got rusty which is why this is the first one I am happy enough to post here.
Kyle has a face full of freckles, so much so, that it takes you aback a bit when you first meet him. My challenge was to render the impression of those freckles. I tried to make his complexion more ruddy than I do with my pretty little girls. He was fun to do, very challenging.
Thank you for looking, and for all your good wishes during my recovery.
Happy to be back!

the image here appears more contrasty than the drawing actually is. I find it difficult to photograph drawing that have graphite AND charcoal in them, oh well...

Patty,
Glad you've recovered so well - that kind of pain can really slow you down.
This drawing is beautiful, so sensitively rendered. You did a masterful job indicating the freckles, without going overboard. Congratulations on such a fine, accomplished piece.

Thank you Natalie.
Carlos, thank you for the compliments. It is frustrating not to be back 100% but I feel I am well on the way. Three months without being able to hold a pencil/paintbrush makes one REALLY rusty!

Patty,
You have such a wonderful way with graphite and charcoal. I think you have done a remarkable job of indicating the freckles. This is so hard to do, as I know from experience! His face is so expressive and real. I would much rather draw him than a model posed in a "classical" attitude.
I am so glad to hear that your surgery was a success and that your healing is progressing.
