Christmas charcoal portraits
Hi -
Here are some examples from this year's crop of Christmas portraits. Drawn freehand: I took the photos of the children and worked from the photos, which is why you do not see sulky faces. Done in vine charcoal on charcoal laid finish paper.
Most took about an hour and a half to do. None more than two hours.

These are wonderful, Julie. I especially like the third one of the girl with dark hair and her head tilted slightly.
Can't think of a better Christmas present.

Thanks, Mary Ann. I really enjoy the happiness of the parents when they get the completed portraits. Makes me feel good!

These are very nice Julie. They are warm, and have a nice nostalgic feel to the marks and design which make the perfect for Christmas portraits.

Thanks, Carlos. I think it's due to them being quick drawings. When I work over things, fretting and re-doing, they just don't have the same feel.

Julie,
They are great--full of life! I like your relaxed (but well controled) use of the pencil.
