New sample

Marylou, 24 x 18, oil on linen. She sat for 4 sittings and I also had a photo reference. I wish now I had chosen a different back drop; I'm thinking it's too monochromatic. This isn't a commission, it's a sample and she works at the gallery where it will hang. I'm not sure if she would have chosen this pose herself; she was very concerned about looking sleepy or tired, but she seems happy with it.

Cecelia,

It's beautiful just as it is! You did such a wonderful job of combining life sittings and photographic reference. There is a definite sense of motion and immediacy in her pose. The color is also true to life, rich where it should be and delicate where it should be. In my opinion the light background works very well in establishing large areas of similar value. The skin, hair and background hold together, while the rich dark tones of the dress, chair and scarf work as another group. This should bring you lots of clients.

Very nice brushwork and lovely harmony in the composition, as well as just enough extra detail in the face. Very accomplished piece.
