Study of Madelyn

This is from today's open studio. 3 hours from life. It didn't turn out as well as I hoped, on the other hand, more than half the time, I end up wiping them out. I think I'll try to take this one to a more finished stage. I took some photos of the model and will work some more on it later from the photos. 16 x 12.

Cecelia,

What a lovely head! So full of life and energy. I like your colour scheme and the simplicity with which you modelled the head. The left cheek that is in shadow and the way it makes the transition to the neck is just exquisite.

Cecilia,
I agree with Carlos, this is really so full of energy.
If you work on this again, you should soften the contour of the cast shadow on the neck as it goes further away from the chin, because of the diffusion of light.

Thanks, Allan and Carlos, and I agree about the shadow; I will soften it. I think there are a lot of edges I could work some more.
I've really enjoyed looking at both of your websites. Love, love, love the way you both portray children, so honestly. Frankly, I'm a bit (make that a lot) sick of the cliched, barefoot little girl in white dress thing that is so prevalent here.

You must have VERY high standards! This is great! Now I'm getting curious about some of your wipe-outs.

I love the reflected light in the underside of her jaw and neck and the overall softness really appeals!
