Georgia
This is a painting I finished this summer and am just now posting it here. Georgia is Parker's sister, so I had the privilege of working with this family again. Their parents were very happy with this painting and have both paintings displayed together in their living room. Now they need to have more little girls!
Georgia is 16 X 20 oil on linen.
Thanks for taking a look,
Renee

Very sweet , I like your soft edges, and the quiet harmony of pink and grey.
Lovely work!

Renee,
A lovely portrait! There are the obvious things, like the way you have captured her sweet expression, and the white, grey and black "color" scheme that introduces startling graphic accents and yet draws attention to the color in her face and hair. The more subtle, but very important, thing (in my mind) is how you placed her on the canvas: slightly down and to the side. There's an exquisite balance in this placement that would not have worked if she had been ever so slightly lower or more to the side. If she had been higher and more centered, it would have worked, but the composition would have been much more commonplace. That's worth studying!

Renee,
this is a charming portrait, as sweet as a Renoir.

I just love the softness of this piece, Renee. Her expression is so serene and sweet.
Did you work with her from life? The subtlety and depth of her skin tones suggest that you did, or else you're really, really good with photos!
Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you all very much for your replies! I'm so glad that Georgia's sweetness and softness came through. Her sister Parker is very bubbly and striking, while Georgia is an extremely sweet, pretty little girl who is more reserved. Georgia has an angelic demeanor and I wanted to reflect that.
Julie, unfortunately having small kids sit for a painting is like trying to catch smoke. I took a lot of pictures of Georgia and wound up merging 2 pics in Photoshop. When I was with her I took notes about the colors in her skin and the value. I also make it a point to watch a child's facial expressions, body language, and reactions and write everything down after I get home. I would love to be able to paint children from life but I think I would wind up doing a lot of paintings of kids playing video games and watching tv--that's the only time they sit still!
Alexandra, thank you for the complement about the composition. I wrestled with that decision and wasted an expensive canvas.
thank you all again!
Renee

Renee you did an excellent job. And if this included merging images in Photoshop one would never know. It looks fresh and sweet. Kudos!
