And there it is, that captured quality of mystery. This young lady might become CEO or saint (not likely both), but she's presented as having plans and intent and personality. We're given not merely a frozen moment in time, but an assurance that this is far more than a fashion ad. This gal is going places. And this is as only you could have painted her.
That's why you get paid the big bucks.

Chris, you sure put a lot of personality into a very simple portrait! It's interesting to look at the way you posed her, slightly swiveled with her hands to one side. It's a wonderful "sample" of how much can be conveyed with very simple language.

Chris, I agree with Alexandra the pose creates a real nice interest and your color choices make this a very lovely work.

It's beautiful, Chris,
the composition is so elegant and easy and the color harmony is just what I am dreaming to do.
Which colors did you actually use ? It looks like you have done the most with two or three colors.

Thank you all for commenting.
As to the color, I stilll use all of the paints on my regular palette, but lately have also been using Holbein's Foundation Greenish when I need to mix up large amounts of light colors. FG is a very large tube of a very odd set of colors that I bought for one of Milt Kobayashi's classes about 9 years ago. (For those of you who have studied with Milt, you'll know he is always experimenting with colors no one has ever heard of, and changes a lot of palette colors by the time he gets to class ) It's very opaque and lightened with titanium, so out of the cabinet and onto the palette. It's a VERY big tube, and I also still have a big tube of something called Foundation Umber, so maybe I'll try that when I run out FG.
PS Although frankly, I don't know WHAT to do do with that Coral Red. Sigh.

Chris,
This portrait has a lot of impact and is successful because of the simplicity and elegance of design coupled with the mastery of execution. Both come from YOU, so I

Beautiful, Chris!
Love the brushwork--loose and atmospheric, but without sacrificing mass. Extremely hard to do both.
And as Steven noted, the LIFE is there.
Best--TE
