Shona, soft pastels




Hi, this is a lovely lady I finished recently Soft pastels on sanded card.
(Sorry about pixelation )

I would appreciate comments before I give the picture to the model

Margaret, I like the way you use and combine your colors. The way you see things and how you represent them is interesting for me.

I have one suggestion that I believe can be considered. It is the length of her nose. Even thought the angle of the viewing point is as it is, I believe in reality the length of her nose is real but in proportion to her face. In this case it is to long and if you nudge the edge above the lip to shorten it just a tiny bit you would be better for it but not forgetting the angle of the viewing point. One more thing a line or two to indicate the circumference or the back of her head mite give your models head more structure.

I have to agree with Mischa about the head it reminds me of one of my old art instructors favorite sayings
" are you a brain surgeon because you've removed this persons brain "
but not to worry this is a common mistake, and if her head really looks like that I apologies.

Thanks for the advice!

I love this position as a pose
I have a relative who spent his life taking photographic portraits. He warned my this is an unflattering angle, particularly for nasal proportions. Wonder what others think?
