Art Insurance for art that's not at home

Hello everyone

I was hoping to delve into the depth of everyone's knowledge and expertise and find out how to get some insurance for an artwork travelling to the UK once it's been dropped of at the gallery. This is really for the BP Portrait Award as they apparantly don't offer insurance for the artworks even if they become finalists.

Thanks for your information!

Thomasin,
I submitted a portrait for the Nordic Portrait Competition, see: portraet.nu.
If my painting is accepted among the top 50 , it will be on a tour around the Nordic Country's for most of a year.
I called my insurance company and told them about the terms. They wanted me to mail some photos and description of the painting and then they send me an insurance for one year, cost DKR 886, around 90

Be careful that the policy covers the "market value" of the work and ask how that's determined. I had insurance on artwork that was travelling outside my studio and found out after paying premiums for several years that it would only have covered the cost of the supplies!

Thank-you Allan and Michele. I will look into our insurance companies services and see what they can do for me. I had a feeling they would not insure my artwork, but I'll check again.
