Nice skintones, interesting character.
At first glance it looked as if the right side of his head was missing and I couldn't figure out what that shape was on top of his head at first. I finally got it (guess I need another cup of coffee!) However I think the overall shape of the head would read better if you continued the tone of the background up and around the head to connect on the left side.
You might also want to do some practice on eye shapes and look at some eye anatomy diagrams, just to brush up your skills in that area.
I agree with Michele about the skin tones, however I think you would be better served to go back to square one and sharpen up your drawing, form and proportion skills. It is so difficult to work in color as I know, that you we be better off working ONLY in black and white until these important facets are second nature. It will save you time and paint in the long run.
I have been reviewing the 'seeing' forum and am amazed at the tools that everyone is using. I haven't been in school for art for many years and I must admit I was never taught to use any tools aside from my brush and my thumb, not even in my 'life drawing class'. I suppose it shows. I will pay closer attention to measuring, however I feel I know what I am doing with my paints. I've been using them for many years.
I like the idea of the monochrome under painting when I am not doing open studio and will definitely work on my other skills as well. In fact, that is what I've been trying to do with these paintings I am posting.
