Pretty in pink
Here is a portrait of a 6-year-old that I've just done. Oil on canvas, 20x16. Digital demonstration ok.

Chuck,
I like the way you captured that wet look in her eyes. I think it really brings life into them. I also like the softness about the eyes as well.

Janel and Valerie,
Thanks for your responses. The photo that had the lighting I wanted to use turned out to be out of focus, so I supplemented it with details from a sharper photo with a little different lighting.

Okay! Wow, nice work. The first thing I notice is that the shadows on the blouse are so much sharper than anything else in the painting. It makes them the center of interest to me.

Valerie,
Thanks for your critique. Sorry to be so slow in responding, but other things have been taking up my time lately. I hadn't considered whether the blouse shadows would complete for attention. The portrait is out of my hands now, so it's too late to make any changes on this painting, but I'll keep it in mind in the future.

Nice handling of the face. It looks like the shadows of the face are more intense than those of the blouse. This creates a problem with a nuetral background as this. Perhaps if you made the shadows of the blouse deeper and richer, it would help bring balance to the overall contrast.

Ron,
Thanks for your comment and suggestion. As I mentioned, this painting is out of my hands now, but I will keep these things in mind for next time.
