20 minute Life sketches

I am so really enjoying this session on a Wednesday night. I wait all week to go and can't think of anything else on the day. Last night our model never turned up so we drew each other for 20 minutes at a time. I now have a new sympathy for the model, 20 min is a long time to hold your face and body still with only blinking allowed. I think no more than 15 min at a time or less is more of a comfortable feeling for the model.

Both Lyn and Brian are done in vine charcoal. Lyn is a 14 x 10 and Brian is 16 x 14. I would have liked to tidy them up but here they are when I stopped drawing them when the bell rang.

This is now my 3rd session this year and 7 overall, ever. I already can see my progress from the first one I attended. Do yourself a favour and experience it this week.

I see them now! These are an improvement Ngaire, I like how you handled the woman in the rocker--that's a lot of detail to get in 20 minutes. I'm curious, is this a class or purely an open studio?

Terri, it is an open studio, we all do our own thing, there is no teacher. I should be careful with my words. I call it a class for no particular reason, I will call it 'open studio' from now on. Sorry for the confusion.

The guy who organises and pays the models is a sculptor and he seems to control the poses, but we can speak up if we want something in particular. I asked about improving the lighting and no go for now until the renovations are done.

Too bad about the lighting! (I remember now you mentioned that in an earlier thread) That makes it so much harder to define form. It's too bad they couldn't at least use a light on a stand closer to the model to give some definition. Hopefully the renovations will be done soon!
