New way (for me) to do Thumbnails

The value of doing a thumbnail before putting paint on the big canvas is well known. The bug-a-boo for me is that, like anything else, it takes time to sketch out the small (4X5, 6X9) painting. Somthing that I have found that works well for me is to scan into photoshop in my computer whatever I'm using for source material (sketch, photo), and then bring it up in Photoshop, remove the color (if there is any), and print it out as a very grayed-down, ghosty image on paper. I spray the paper with anything that will slow the absorption (krylon acrylic, etc.). I print out several of these, tape them to a board, and make as many thumbnails as I wish, trying different color and value combinations.

This isn't a "great" discovery, but it makes thumbnails easier, and in the case of portrait material, your little thumbnail bears some resemblance to your subject.
