Studies after Shanks
With little time to paint, I decided to brush up on drawing and interpreting values from colour. If you have the May issue of the Artist's Magazine, you should (if I rendered these properly) recognize the portraits by Nelson Shanks. Considering that this was only practice, I used cheap 8.5" x 11", 70 lb, acid free paper, and graphite. I tried to copy these 'straight' without any measuring devices, allowing my eyes to learn from sight comparison, but will not attempt a 'freehand' on a serious piece.
Thanks for looking.
