Linda,
This is a beautiful painting! I love the shadow areas around the neck. I assume this is a portrait from life. The flesh tones are magnificant!
Congratulations!

Beautiful color harmony, Linda. Having met your model, I can also comment on an excellent likeness!

Lovely! I especially like the pink "wrap" around her shoulders. Is that a particular garment she wore, or fabric you draped specifically to get that effect?

Mike, Chris and Michelle,
Thank you so much for these kind remarks. This is my little sister and it was so wonderful to finally get the chance to paint her. Mike, this actually started out as a live portrait but I had to finish up with photographs.
Michelle, I had so much fun with this pink fabric (yes, that's all it is - taffeta, maybe?) that I think I'm going to work it into my next few paintings.
By the way, I shot this photo with my digital camera under a skylight - my new favorite method of shooting a painting.

Hi Linda,
The portrait of your sister is beautiful. It conveys a certain calmness and sense of content, which is very appealing.

Very nice portrait Linda. I like the comfortable, just right space, you have left around the subject.
I had a lady visit me today at my studio. Her sister was a portrait artist on the east coast, was studying with D. Greene. She spoke with such pride of her sister, her face just beamed.
No doubt your sister will speak of you with that same glow, especially when you are not around.

Linda,
This portrait is absolutely wonderful! I love everything about it. Your sister should be VERY pleased with what you've done. You've portrayed her as a gentle soul, thoughtful and sensitive. She is so lovely - and such a graceful, long neck. She gazes at you from the canvas as if quietly greeting a beloved friend. It puts the viewer at ease and a calm suffuses the entire work. Impressive!
I am amazed that this was photographed beneath a sky light. It looks as though the light were shining from a window on her left. There is no light reflecting off the top of her head, nor the shadows cast under the eyes that one might expect from a light source that is directly overhead. Please excuse my ignorance, but how did you do this?
