"Starving artist" in Yugoslavia
I received an email that I thought I would post here. I realize that most of you would probably not be interested in having a portrait done, but perhaps someone is feeling generous.
Quote:
I am unknown self-taught portrait artist.I am a student of architecture in Nis (Yugoslavia) And I prefer to paint portraits in pastel medium. As I have no money to upgrade my knowledge about painting portraits in pastel I suggest: Send me one book about painting portrait in pastel and for the return I will paint you or somebody you love,or some of your friends.
I am sending you some examples of my work.

Cynthia,
I am not a pastel artist, but I happen to have the latest Pastel Journal magazine. If you post the address of this person I can send it as a gift.

I'm afraid this guy may have opened a flood gate.
I say we send our books to Cynthia, she sends them on and receives back a portrait of herself.

I'd buy a used pastel book through Amazon and send it to Cynthia, if that's acceptable to her? Do you still get a commission Cynthia if it is used, or is it just using the link from your site that counts? However, paper is heavy, thus high shipping costs overseas if there's a lot of books...? Or perhaps individual sending would be good?

Cynthia, I'd be happy to buy him a book on portraits in pastel, as a gift. Add my name to the list of people who'd be willing to participate.

I haven't touched my pastels in years. Think I could send the lot overseas, or would they crumble to dust?
The only thing worse than an artist without books is an artist without supplies.

Here is Marko's address:
Marko Milovanovic
Vojvode Misica 62/1
18000 Nis, Serbia & Montenegro
I think it would be easier for me if each volunteer did their own mailing.
Holly,
The Amazon order has to be from a link on my site, but don't let that stop whatever you want to do.
