Invitation to SOCAL-ASOPA Meeting




As founder of the newly organized affiliate chapter of SOCAL-ASOPA (Southern California-American Society Of Portrait Artists), I would like to extend an invitation to all portrait artists who live between Los Angeles and San Diego County, to our 2nd meeting at the Laguna Hills Community Center on January 16th, 2003.

Hi Enzie,

I see that most of the events will take place during the week. If ever you schedule anything on the weekend, please let me know! I would love to be a part of it! Best of luck with the chapter!

SOCAL-ASOPA 2003 Schedule of Events

Dear Carolyn,

Thank you for you kind words. At this time we are not meeting on weekends, but some of the workshops are scheduled for late afternoon/evening. The schedule for 2003 is:

20 February "Sargent and Italy" 10am-2pm

Docent tour at LACMA

20 March John Cosby Workshop 5pm-9pm

"The Plein Air Palette" things you should know about painting portraits outdoors.

17 April Paint Session 10am-2pm

Preceded by a presentation about rendering folds on fabrics.

15 May Vito-Leonardo Scarola Workshop 6-9pm

Mr. Scarola is a ASOPA patron and award-winning portrait artist, who has taught portraiture at the Laguna Beach Arts Academy and at Saddleback College.

19 June Paint Session 10am-2pm

17 July "Mondigliani and the Artists of Montparnasse" 10am-2pm at LACMA

21 August Group trip to ASOPA conference in San Fransisco

18 September "Old Masters,Impressionists and Moderns" LACMA exhibit with lecture.

10-12 October 1st Annual Portrait Competition

13 October - 7 day Portraiture Workshop

Instructor will be announced.

20 November - Paint Session 10am-2pm

18 December - Christmas Party

SoCal-ASOPA's web site is now up and running. Members are still in the process of submitting scans of their work, but membership and program information can now be accessed online.
