Artist credit line on reproductions

Hi SOG,

I would really appreciate it if you could comment on a question for me. I have no experience with Official portraits. (this may not be in the correct thread)

Archbishop Dolan (who is now Archbishop of New York) is making the portrait I painted of him his "Official" Portrait. As I understand it, the original will remain at Holy Hill Basilica (Wisconsin) and Reproductions will be made for New York. Because it is now his Official portrait the Archdiocese has secured the rights from me and I retain a broad license to sell reproductions and use the image for promotional purposes.

My question is in regards to the photo/print reproductions which they are allowing me to have a credit line at the bottom of each print. I have no Idea what it should say or even if I should do it because after all my signature is on the painting. Would you please look at these and make a recommendation. I just don't want it to look like an advertisement for me. If there is no place for the credit they will affix a sticker on to the back of the framed print.

(small print in the contrasting border at the bottom of the Photo/print reproduction)

Anything else?

Thanks in advance for your comments,
Patrice

Congratulations! That's great news!

I like your first two tag lines the best.

Here's my two cents:
I don't think it will be necessary to display your web site: like you said, that's advertising, and would seem to conflict with the nature of the portrait. In this age of internet, your name should be sufficient for anyone to find you, assuming that your website uses keywords that include the name of your sitter and anything else you think will be used as a search word, such as "portrait" and "artist".

Thank you for your response Julie. I really appreciate your taking the time to comment.

I agree with your comments and will probably go with the first line for text on the front of the print. I feel simple is best in this case. In the case where I will get a sticker on the back I will add my website.

Patrice

That's a beautiful portrait. congrats.

I second Julie's words and I think you've made the right decision.
