Karin,
Is this exquisite lady related to the other Nields portrait?
Can you describe the rapport that is needed when working with your clients and portrait subjects?

I love the softness of the facial features and the reflected lights. I would also love to see the detail of the hand.
The composition is very interesting. It's as if you were counter-balancing the shape of the head with the shape of the fan. I must admit the empty space behind bothers me a little.
Why do you write the subject's name on your canvas? I find that intriguing.
Thanks for sharing this painting with us.

Here is a detail of the hand and drape.
Yes they are related, Whitney is Zabie's younger sister.
I letter names onto the portraits if the clients wish me to do so.

This is beautiful! Her face is so soft and I too like the reflected light. The client must be so pleased. I especially like how you handled the satin material - so realistic.
Would have loved to seen the underpainting for this. If you ever get the chance on your next portrait and you are so inclined to share the underpainting, I would love to see it.
Thanks for sharing.

I too find the space behind a bit disturbing. Also, I have been wanting to ask you about the calligraphy in your portraits. How is this received by your clients? I find it appealing. May I use this idea as well? Or, would I stand to be labeled as a copy cat?

Sorry, I didn't see the second page of this string. Is this a completed work? Somehow, I get the feeling that this is incomplete. The contrast the flesh areas is not in tune with the surrounding clothes. I feel that there is darker areas between the hands and the shoulder and arm. The contrast of Whitney doesn't agree with the clothes. The clothes appear to be more finished. I hope that I'm not being too critical. I like your work. It's just that, to me, this portrait falls short of your previous pieces.

Karin, It's beautiful and I'm glad you posted a few details of this painting. I see a whitish-touch of violet layer that gives her a luminous look. How do you achieve this and at what point do you apply this layer?
