Maria

This portrait depicting my granddaughter Maria, was painted from a photo reference which I posted earlier on the photo critique section of this forum. My goal was to create an interesting painting, rather than an exact photo reproduction. Since I am a poor judge of my own work, I'm not sure how successful I was. Nonetheless, I'm reasonably pleased with the result, considering the challenges involved, which were: trying to keep the the brushwork "loose" and figuring out the colors in the shadows.

Bob, it looks lovely. I bet your granddaughter just loves it. I especially like how her right eye turned out. I would say you achieved your objective. The painting has a real soft feel to it and turned out very nice.

Thank you for the kind words, Enzie. Yes, I agree about her right eye, although I can take no credit for it as it just "happened" early on in the painting, so I just left it alone after that!

Bob, I think it's really well done! I like the softness; it has a peaceful feeling about it. Your granddaughter looks to be such a lovely girl.
