Finalist Artist's Magazine competition 2007

This painting was selected as a finalist in the 24th Artist's magazine competition in the Experimental category. It's not much, really, but since all my other news consists of rejections I thought I would give it a formal announcement.

(Actually, I think it was this one that got in. In a flash of dullness I named the painting "Untitled" and then deleted the computer file with a record of the images I sent into the competition...)

I think ending up as a finalist 2 years in a row (am I right?) is quite something that most of us would be elated with...CONGRATULATIONS!!! It

ribbon Yes!

Congrats, Thomasin! I'm SO, SO happy that the judges recognized the merit of your piece. It is brillant, but entirely un-self-consciously so, because it truly evolved by that irrational and soulful process which you described a while back. A big, BIG congratulations from me!

(Incidentally, I feel honored to be in excellent company because my Young Harpist is a finalist in the portait/figure category. I have a sneaking feeling they picked it because it is of an attractive young woman strumming a beautiful instrument, and not for the other reasons I painted it, but oh well! I'm thrilled anyway! Are there any more Forum members out there who got any award or mention in this competition?)

Carlos, I checked the Artist's Magazine website and there is no list. They are planning to print the winning art and the list of finalists in the December issue.

Thanks very much Carlos, Alex and Enzie. And congratulations to you too, Alex. I am very sure they chose your lovely painting because of its artistic merit. There's no question. I always think, either way - whether I got into a competition or not, that it was a slip of the judge's mind, that they were suddenly distracted when it came to viewing my work and accidentally ticked the wrong box.

BIG Congratulations Thomasin and Alex !!!
You both really deserve this recognition.

I also feel honored to be in fantastic company : they choose my "Cherub" as a finalist in the portrait and figure category ( and also 2 of my trompe-l'oeil in the still life category).

ribbon And three more. . . !

Dear Thomasin, Alex, and Marina,

I am thrilled for all of you and your collective five works deservedly selected as finalists! That makes me feel great! Congratulations!

But, how would you feel if three of mine are added as finalists too !? All are in the portrait/figure category:

Apotheoun (that painting which seemingly just won't fade away; tallying 12,166 views so far here)

Incidently, Artist's Magazine is also featuring this painting in their 2008 Calendar, coming out soon. . . .!!! I wonder which month they will choose for this painting? Should we bet on one of the summer months?

Also,

Jane and Iona

and,

Arianna and Taylor

I am honored to join your company of finalists, but apologize that these three paintings of mine somehow keep resurfacing.

That makes eight of our Forum featured paintings as finalists, so far! Who else? Ultimately, I wonder how many "finalists" there are? I am beginning to imagine there may be quite a few names filling the list within December's issue of Artist's Magazine.

Garth
