Too much time on the computer

I believe I have been spending too much time in front of my computer. I was searching for a specific book in my studio last night and I had this strange urge to type the author's name in the air and hit "enter" so the book would just shuffle around and pop right out from the other books for me. Simple as that!

Has anyone else been in a similar mental computer ozone, or do I just need a vacation? Or should I really not be admitting that this happened?

Gina,

I must admit that now whenever I want to look up something or learn about something...I head for the computer. I don't know what I did without it. Honestly though, it sounds like you need to get out more.

We are a cagey lot, we portrait artists. Here it is a big Saturday night, with football games going on and here we sit in front of the computer. Does that tell you something?

Alicia,

I also am amazed at how much I run to my computer to find things, I have always been the type of person who wants to know the why and how of everything and what better and quicker way than the world? That's how I found this Forum.

I am getting away for a portrait workshop in Asheville next week, no computer, fresh air and painting - what more could an artist need to clear the mind? Maybe I should do a quick search on that question...

Are you going to Peggy B's workshop in Ashville? I wanted to go but my travel funds are low right now. Have a great time, I envy you.

Alicia,

Yes, I am going to Peggy B's workshop. Thank you, I am very much looking forward to it. I have her set of tapes and she is very talented at taking a subject and breaking it down to understand the 'why' (something I like to know) of the subject.

There are so many articulate and knowledgeable artists on this Forum who generously share what they have learned over the years; I hope they know how much they are encouraging a fledgling artist such as me.

Since being a member of this Forum I have made a list of artists with whom I would like to take workshops, my goal is at least one a year. So I work to learn I suppose, or do I learn to work? Whichever works.

Maybe we'll meet up at a workshop sometime.
