Isn't it amazing those are pastels. Each one that I scanned, I kept thinking these must be oil until I came to the captions and realized they weren't.

Mostly they find me. But, Steve Mickle is a name I've known for a long time. When you get involved in Portrait Society of America, you get to know people and hear names. Though I've never seen Steve there. Not sure how I first heard of him. I know in the beginning years of my site, I would ask quality artists for referrals to others of quality.
