Contracts when dealing with clients?

I have recently got commissions of which I feel there are things I should know more about ...

1. Of which I replied on another forum to Marvin about and that is a release signed by the client so I can use images of the paintings in my portfolio.
I do not feel this will be a problem for the client at all but I don't have the slightest idea how to go about preparing one. Are there any examples to be seen anywhere?

2. What about a contract between myself and the client, how important is that? DO you use one? Again are there examples I might can see and such like?

Before I did my portraits within my circle of influence and I didn't worry about that but now that people I do not know personally are seeking me out I feel I need to step up my game so to speak.

Thoughts?
