Pat, this is coming along nicely. I would dial down the sharpness and intensity of his left eye as it seems to jump off the page. Your work has grown in maturity in leaps and bounds since you first joined the forum. Nice to see the progress. Looking forward to the finished painting.

Solidly worked values. Have a care for the actual shape of the boy's head. Compared to the reference photo, you have rounded his cheeks considerably.

Beware catch-lights and "wet spots" in the eyes . . . they're too much fun, and too easy to over-play.

Notice how broad the forehead is compared to the middle part of the face.
