Baby girl underpaint

Here is the underpaint of the photo I posted in the photo critique section. The original photo is about 30 years old and I'm doing this for the mother. The client has seen this and loves it. The edge between the hair and background has been left hard and will be softened when I add color. I don't like the contrast between the light corner of the dress on the left side and the "floor" so this will be changed when I add color. I did take Marvin's recommendation and put a doll in a dress for a better light resource. I also added a few throw pillows around to add more color to the finished painting. Any suggestions about value range, composition, drawing accuracy and likeness, and edges are welcomed.

Thank you in advance,
Renee Price

Wow, great start!

It is a great start to a great subject.

It looks as though the nose is a tiny bit short horizontally, and too long vertically, causing the cheek to look too big, which it is not. Perhaps the angle of the nose is too vertical, or something. Otherwise, masterfully drawn and blended. Will be watching this one.

Thank you very much, Lon! I'll check the nose and cheek area. I appreciate your comments; after looking at a painting for hours it's easy to miss some things. I see that you did a lot of work on other critiques-- a big THANK YOU from us all!

Hope you don't mind. I did a little rotation in photoshop. It could still stand to be shortened a smidgen.

I don't mind at all. All suggestions are welcomed!

Adorable! I would have thought the left cheek was too large if not for Lon. Clever analysis. My comment would be to avoid halation and lighten more of the background to bring head forward. Please post progess. She is a charmer!
