Three on Sunday

Hello! I painted this 14" x 11" oil today for my daughter's upcoming third birthday. I spent about two hours on it, using a limited palette of Transparent Oxide Red, Alizaron, Ultramarine, Viridian and White. I love it so far. Originally, I had planned to paint two litte teacups in front of the figure and to her right (our left). Would this effectively balance the values, or cause a distraction?

Any additional thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

PS - I made some changes and re-posted the pictures since my first post.

That's lovely!

I love this! The teacups, if placed anywhere in the picture, should be just where you say, in my opinion, but it's lovely as is too.

It is beautiful just how it is Mara! I'd skip the teacups. Really really nice work!

Thank you for your thoughts! The horizontal line of shadow in the foreground was bugging me, so I altered it a bit to create more interest and motion there. I like it now. On to the next painting!

Seriously? You did this in TWO HOURS? Very well done.

Mara Schasteen 12-07-2009 10:52 PM

well... I painted the figure and the first version of the background in two hours, then I changed the movement of the foreground a bit the next day, so I guess I should clarify with 2 hours plus a night's sleep and a morning's musings. Thank you, Natalie!

I envy how fast you can work. This is a lovely painting and I am sure means so much to you. She is sweet!
