Emerging Figure lV
1 Attachment(s)
This is another new oil, this time on paper. I wanted to keep it really emerging from the background - just the tones and textures coming out.

Your colors are beautiful, Thomasin!

I like what I see, you sure have a plan, keep it up, Thomasin!!!

Thomasin, this interests me very much. I find myself wondering "What is the ground, exactly, and where is it? Is it a plane or three-dimensional air?" I think you somehow capture the ambiguity of this. I can see the figure coming through a membrane, or a plane--but I can also see it emerging from space. I feel as though my eyes are playing tricks on me and I like that!

Thank-you Julie. I love working with purple-blues, especially when they are mixed with white, and it is exciting for me to contrast them with peachy colours to bring out the saturation.
Thanks Allan. I appreciate your remark very much. I am very pleased to like this one, Alex. I was trying to get to the core of the colours and form with too much detail definition. I enjoy the paint when it just starts to create a feeling of solidity and form, and I wanted to stop at that point. I like the feeling of a painting being of potential, rather than realizing that potential. In my own work when I try and realize the potential of an emerging image, I am always disappointed. |
