Oil portraits of friends

These portraits were painted after a two week workshop with Tony Ryder.
Please critique. The first painting of a friend, and the second painting is of my husband's mother.

Oh My GOD!!! Another New Iberia artist!!! You've got to come to my life-drawing sessions. Email me.

(At least one person here knows how to pronounce your name :) )

These are lovely Debra!
Some quick thoughts... on the first portrait, you might want to take a second look to the right of her mouth where her upper lip meets her cheek, the transition seems a little abrupt. Also along her jaw line on the right side, there's a point where her jowl and chin meet and unfortunately there's a shadow coming up from her throat at just the same place, there's something about that convergence makes her jawline read a little off... makes her jowl seem sort of droopy on that side. But overall nicely done -- she has a certain mysterious air about her :)

The second portrait is quite striking. My only thought there is that it could be improved by a little more attention to the shoulders (the near shoulder in particular) as the lower level of finish distracts from her beautiful face.
