Janet's portrait in clay
3 Attachment(s)
A first for me, a portrait in ceramic clay. I had such a good time doing my little jazz player that I wanted to progress further with this sculpting medium, so, spurred on by Heidi's help and advice on her sculpting forum and my daughter-in-law's patience in being my subject material, I produced this piece. It was a great learning experience and I'm looking forward to doing more. There's an intangible satisfaction
in working in three dimensions using your hands! |
Exelent First Portrait head
Well done for a first. The ceramic process adds some additional challenges too. I hope you will continue to post more of your sculpture.
Peace, |
Thank you David for your comments, I hope to continue with this medium and If I do anything I consider worthwhile, I'll certainly post it!

Very nice.

Thank you, Claudemir!

You inspire me to try sculpture again. I remember, as a student at Ringling, the challenges of modeling the figure in various academic poses. It helped a great deal with learning to draw.

Thanks, James, I say, Go for it!

Hey Bob,
Haven't popped in here in a while, but just noticed you posted Janet here. I think she turned out lovely and it was interesting hearing about your challenges with her that you were able to overcome and the hands on experimentation with the patina when things didn't go quite as you'd hoped. So glad that you had the confidence to see her through to the finish and not give up - congratulations are due for that feat alone! It does get easier, believe me. I completely agree about the satisfaction of using your hands - especially in ceramic, when the clay is fresh and soft. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.. |
Bob, I haven't been around much either, but wanted to say she turned out lovely. Your first?! Wau!
