A Lady & her Hound
1 Attachment(s)
Hello, all. I've been lurking and learning for all the time since I last posted. I've carved out a satisfying niche for myself painting pet portraits, knowing my strengths do not lie with subjects with only two legs. ;) (I flatter myself believing that I'll take the time to learn to properly paint people once I retire.)
Nonetheless, a recent return client wanted to be included in the painting. I held my breath, tried not to close my eyes, and this was the result. The canvas measures 30" x 36", painted in oils. Best, Dave |
David,
The two legged variety is as well done as the hound. Your client must be well pleased. I really like how you handled the ground cover and background bushes. I can feel and smell the autumn in the picture. The hounds expression is priceless. From what I see here portraits are no problem for you. |
Thanks very much, Richard. Your opinion is reassuring.

David,
I think you successfully show the relationship between the woman and her dog, as well as the kind and warm personality of the woman. Nice composition and color scheme, too. |
Thank you, Alexandra. You're very kind. Every portrait I've yet attempted seems to result in the realization of what I could have done to improve it if I had a second opportunity. I've never yet exercised the discipline to start over and try again! :o
