This is a second try at large kids in pastel. I think the scale works much better life size, as I got a bit bogged down in keeping the skin interesting at 20x16."

Just exploring the technique of pastel over watercolor on paper.

Debra,
I really love this painting, It is so alive and vibrant in color. You have made an extremely skillful use of warm and cool color to create a vibrant surface, and the pose has so much energy and sense of movement. - a real winner.

Debra,
What an enchanting image--The watercolor and pastel really work beautifully together.

On the critique side, you might want to take a second look at the little puff of sleeve behind her hand... that sharp contrast with the background pulls it forward rather than receding. Also not sure about the contour of the bangs?

But overall this is striking and beautiful!

Debra, although this is a lovely subject and you have made some excellent choices there are some thing that could be considered. First the top back of the head it seems as she has none, next the rest lines are sharper then the fingers where it should be the other way around and the front of the neck is a touch to sharp and comes forward when that line should recede.

I hope this helps
