I haven't been around here in a long time...

I just got a *real* studio set up, and today completed my first portrait drawing from life in the space. It took two sessions; the first lasted about 1.5 hours, and the second was four hours with many breaks. Seamus is very patient and never asks for breaks!

Lacey,

You have done a spectacular job! Solid drawing, and beautiful, convincing modeling. Very fine value control!

Tell us about your new space-

PS Nice to see you back:)

Lacey Lewis 08-18-2008 08:52 PM

Thanks, Chris! (For both the kind words, and the welcome back.)

The new studio is neat. It is in an old newspaper pressroom, and other artists are moving in there as well. It's all just starting up, so the place is pretty rough, but we're working on it and I have plenty of room.

Perhaps I will go post in the 'studios' section with some pictures. :)

Super drawing Lacey and congrats on the new studio!

Lacey, welcome back! Its a wonderful drawing, so masterful.

Beautiful drawing, Lacey. Masterful handling in all aspects!
Was this graphite with touches of white?

Lacey Lewis 08-19-2008 07:55 AM

Christy, I have been watching your thread on drawing children with life. Good for you, and I think the drawing you posted there is beautiful! Thank you for the kind words.

Alexandra, congrats on the American Artist Cover Competition! Thank you.

Carlos, thank you. Actually, this is charcoal with white, no graphite. I may have photographed it a little light, but most of it was done with willow charcoal. It's on blue/gray toned paper.

Lacey, very skillfully executed! He jumps from the surface, and I can really feel the substance of the head. :)

Thomasin Dewhurst 08-20-2008 10:42 AM

Very nice drawing, Lacey. I love the various textures and the transparency of the beard.

Lacey Lewis 08-20-2008 04:45 PM

Thank you Michael and Thomasin!

Boy, I should hang around here more often. ;)
