Forgotten art (great blog!)
I came across a magnificent painting the other day entitled A Woman from Bern Switzerland by Dagnan Bouveret. I'd never heard of the artist so went searching and found this great blog! Enjoy!

What a fantastic find and what interesting artists. Thanks for the link.

Thank you for this link, Christy. It certainly makes you wonder what combination of factors makes some artists (or art) become well-known and some sink into obscurity.

Thanks for the excellent link, Christy. Some of the works are quite excellent, some of them are slightly weaker. I'd probably say they were not as innovative as the major names in art history, and perhaps imitative of well-known styles (but that impression I am having is probably because I do already know those styles, and, for instance, it was likely Braque not Picasso who invented Cubism, but we usually give the credit of innovation to the latter and more famous artist. If I ever become a forgotten artist lucky enough to have good home for most of my works, I'd be quite satisfied.
So refreshing and so inspiring. |
I'm so glad you all are enjoying this!
I must say, Thomasin, I was reminded a little of your work while viewing the paintings of Olga Boznanska, such mysterious and lovely portraiture. |
