I just got back from a trip to Pittsburgh where I visited my cousin who is also an artist. While there I did this sculpture of my daughter Lilah. I started it with her looking up at me, then was reminded of a pleasant memory of her. It was a warm day in December 2006. She sat on the back porch, and there was a little breeze. She closed her eyes, enjoying feeling the breeze on her face, and said "thank you wind". I loved that moment!

The anatomy on her neck is off in these photos. I've fixed that, but haven't done anything else.

This is really beautiful, Christy. You've really captured that pure moment that you describe - a moment where she - and you - experience the exquisite joy of simply being. Beautiful in its honesty.

Thank you so much David! I'm happy with it, but I do think I got a little excited and posted this too early. It occurs to me that it's not exactly a finished piece, as it's still just a hunk of unfired clay. I'll see about having this fired and post an update here. I've never had anything fired or made into a cast, so this will be fun.

You never cease to amaze me!

I love the feeling in this--in her expression and position. Also the way you have sculpted it is so organic, and you have left it at just the point when a form is emergng from the lump of clay, but the lumps and roughness add to the life of it. I always like to see some process in the product. Beautifully inspired and shaped!

Very nice Christy! Not surprising that your superb drawing skills translates so nicely into sculpture.
Love the fresh, unfinished look of this. I am one who constantly overworks a piece, so it is refreshing to see this nice loose clay sketch and makes me want to do more in this style.

Christy, this is so beautiful! It caught a lump in my throat. I have a daughter close to that age and can so identify with sweet little moments like that now. It's just wonderful.

I agree with Alex. I have always found the unfinished in sculpture the most powerful whether it be Rodin or Michaelangelo . Gorgeous piece.

Thank you all very much it means much to me, especially from you Heidi, that you think it is good. I would love to sculpt. At the moment I have about 60 portraits I need to complete. I have the most difficult time disciplining myself.

Christy, this is definitely one of the times when inspiration suddenly takes over and that magic thing takes place.
It's alive, sweet, tender ! It is clearly the produce of an urge, it has the feverishness of creation.
it's "Medardo Rosso meets Camille Claudel" !
