Lloyd and Elsie

This is a painting of my parents. It was done from a digital image I had taken a couple summers ago. I struggled a bit with this due to insufficient information in the original photo I had taken, but in the end I think and hope it turned out fine.
Thanks for looking |
Brian, I love it! I like the way you posed your parents and the overall feel the painting conveys. I'll bet they will be happy to see this finished. Is it going to be a gift to your parents?

Brian,
I love the happy accidents! What I mean is, I love it when you take a bunch of shots and they turn out to be such great resources. I don't know how much you influenced your parents pose but the composition and your handling of all of the elements is truly beautiful. But, no matter an accident or a purposeful pursuit with such design, I like it very much. Very nice work. |
Brian, I was sort of thinking along the same lines as John, wondering whether the references were just a lucky chance or deliberate, but realizing it doesn't matter. You caught something there that holds up and says something universal about regular people who are special. Very successful!

A treasure
Brian,
This is beautiful, a treasure to cherish forever! Your painting has such a great feel to it, everything in it is somehow very cohesive. You have a lot of information in the painting but nothing seems crowded at all (hard to do, I think). What size is the painting? Joan |
Thanks for the positive response to my painting.
Enzie, it will be a gift and surprise for my parents this summer when i take my holidays. John and Alexandra, I guess you could classify this as a happy accident. We were out on the front deck taking some family photos and this was the one that stood out to me. All that was needed was some cropping. There was never any intention that this was going to be used for a portrait, however once I viewed the pictures I new then I wanted to paint them as is. It's just a simple snapshot of my wonderful parents. Joan, thanks for reminding me as i forgot to mention some details. The painting itself it done in oil on canvas and measures 28" X 22". It, for me was a great learning experience for me to tackle this one and I am happy I did. Again, thanks for all the nice comments. |
