Clayton J. Beck III recent demo in Scottsdale
2 Attachment(s)
Hello SOG friends,
This is a demo I did last week in Scottsdale, AZ and I thought I'd post and see if anyone was interested in figure work on this forum. I do a lot of figure work and would like to post if anyone would be interested. Comments are welcome. This is a type of nude/still life painting I like to do and since I set up such an interesting arrangement for the class I thought I would paint too. I talked while I painted and a few at a time came by to watch at various times. I think this is an important aspect of teaching. To get in the trenches with the students and solve problems too. Sometimes a brushstroke is worth a thousand words. Clayton |
This is absolutely beautiful!

Clayton,
This is a masterful piece of work. Everything is going for it - design, drawing, color, edges. Your students are indeed lucky - not only are you a top notch painter, you're a generous teacher. I think there is an increasing level of interest here in figurative work - hard to draw the line many times. |
PS I would like to make mention of the fact that the detail you posted has been cropped in such a way that it becomes a complete painting. It's something I stress with my students in designing their business cards, brochures, etc .A great mini-tutorial:)
BTW what is the size of the demo? |
Painting details
"Nude and Cast"
Oil on Linen 16" x 20" (Not sure because I sold it right away but I think it was on double primed Claesens) Funny you (Chris) would point that out, I almost cut the figure half of the canvas off and made it a still life. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't. Although it would have made a nice piece also. Tough call. Clayton |
Very lovely work, Clayton! Beautiful use of black as an abstract element.
