It's a real pleasure to be accepted in this group. I think you all are doing a wonderful thing here. It's not just the coming together of like minds for the pleasure of each other's company, but it is also a wonderful forum for the exchange of ideas. Generally, the change of information from the more experienced ones to the less experienced ones is the norm but the excitement and pleasure gained from the sharing of information is a great thrill to those more experienced too.

I'm looking forward to posting and getting responses to some images. I hope you will enjoy and also feel free to comment.

This is it head study done as a demonstration. It is an oil on linen done in about 2 hours. It was a demonstration specifically about edge techniques.

Being my first post, I hope all goes well.

Dear Clayton,

We are so fortunate to have you here!

Gorgeous painting. For those of you who might not yet be familiar with Clayton's work, take the time to visit his website.

Clayton is not only a terrific painter but a gifted and articulate teacher.

A warm welcome to you!

Very nice work, Clayton. I really enjoy your tonal (as opposed to just using lights and darks) modeling in this portrait, and especially love that patch of warm, glassy green on the left jaw. I also really like the unexpected energy in the background, and the medusa-ish quality of it growing out of his head. The suggestion of the neck is very alive, and his skin in general looks as though light is being both reflected and absorbed. Yes, I really, really like this painting. It's a wonderful personal step away from your Richard Schmid influence - not that I am knocking that influence in the least, but it is nice to see you have the confidence and conviction to go beyond that in such an interesting and contemporary way.
