Lasik Surgery and its effects on seeing.
This is a question for anyone on here who has has lasik surgery. I'm considering having it done and I've heard from lots of people how fabulous it is, but none of them use their eyes in the same way I do as an artist. If you've had it, what are your thoughts? Are colors any clearer, is it harder to squint to see masses, etc?
Thanks in advance for any feedback! Cheers, |
The Lasik question
I have not had this procedure, but am also thinking about it and have mulled over the same questions. Since the age of 50, I've needed to add a bi-focal to my corrective lenses. However, without my glasses, I can see very clearly, like never before, when viewing things up close. I'm told that once I have the surgery, this phenomenon will cease to exist and this bothers me very much. So I too would like to hear from anyone who has experience with this process.

I've considered Lasik, and I'm still on the fence.
I first got glasses in the fifth grade. My vision declined over time until I'm nearly blind as a bat without them. I've also had cataract surgery and retinal repair in one eye. Complicating the question, over the last couple of years my vision is sharpening and improving, and the eyeglass prescriptions are becoming weaker, not stronger. My doctor tells me this is not unusual in middle age. I believe that painting constantly is visual exercise, like weight lifting, but that's just my opinion. The corneal procedures like radial keratotomy and Lasik have been performed millions of times safely, but I want to see the fifty-year longitudinal studies before I get it done. Since I may not live that long, it's maybe moot. |
