Oil Sketch - Mrs. Parker

Here is my oil sketch from this afternoon's open studio session. Our model had this gorgeous complexion and amazing eyes. I was working with the more limited palette but added a bit of cyan at the end. Just a wild hair, I guess! I'll get this whole photoshop thing down one day. This one, to me, still looks too yellowish. Perhaps it's just my monitor.

Anyway, today I was concentrating on skin tones, though I think the likeness is passable, not great. If I had more time I would have liked to spend more measuring and comparing features. I ended up only having a little over two hours to work on this. It's snowing like crazy here and everyone was running late to the studio.

Hope everyone's having a great weekend!

Julie,

Very nice! I love the colors and the edges. You did a great job with the skin tones.

Thanks Alexandra!

After looking at this for several days I am really quite impressed that I could get such a different look from what was essentially the same color palette I used for Ivan. I think I'll stick with this for awhile and see what I can do with it. Since I am really just beginning to produce consistently I'm sure I'll develop my favorite palette and it seems wise to me to keep it simple at first , methodically switching different colors out as I want to experiment. I've read some of the conversations about what other artists here use on their palettes and I'm curious to try using Terra Rosa instead of Alizarin for the red, as an example.
