La rose d'Uchisar

From what I have seen on the forum I guess you would not consider this as a portrait, that is why I am posting it in this section. Yet, a portrait is "A likeness of a person" : I have done many from 3/4 back, you can hardly see the face but the person is still recognizable, therefore I call them portraits.

Amazing work!

A very intense piece.
The face is very powerful and beautifully expressed. The color harmonies are lovely. |
Jean-Francois,
This is a lovely paintng, and I find everythng about it luscious. You have used beautiful, rich color and texture, all of which has just the right amount of subtlety and variety to hold together in your composition. A beautiful job, thanks for posting. |
Jean-Francois, I love your pastel handling and the way you have managed the cool/warm transitions in the face, especially in the shadow section. It's good to see your work here.

Jean-Francois,
The first thing that struck me about this artwork (portrait or figurative, whichever it may be) was the expression on the child's face. It is intense and compelling, not only as an indication of internal complexity. but also as a suggestion of what she is looking at i.e. what outside or beyond the picture frame. Her expression is further offset by that of the trusting animal beside her. I love the way you have used the pastels--technique and color complexity and richness. As for the difference between portraiture and figurative work, I personally think this could be either, and that there is an overlap. |
