Julie what a complete and satisfying painting! Really commendable and inventive use of color and composition. Everything just sings with harmony. This is so rich, so good; please make some more sudden masterpieces! Garth |
Thanks, Chris and Garth. We were struggling to find a pose, then I looked over while we were moving furniture around - and the model was in this position....looking at her cellphone. Voila! Took out the cellphone though - thought it was too much focal point.

Julie, it looks like you had fun exploring color! Love those rich hues!

Just gorgeous Julie,
Beautifully handled and evocative. I just love the surprises that come out of drawing from life. |
What an angle you got on her, Julie! That eye! Terrific! I love the freedom of the strokes and the dramatic color.

hanks!
Enzie - I've decided that the time has come to delve more into color. In fact, I'm looking forward to taking a short weekend workshop with Roseta Santiago http://www.rosetasantiago.com/main.p...m&g2_itemId=96 this month, who uses dramatic color in her still life work. Hoping to gain more insight. Sharon - isn't life - and life drawing - full of surprises? I love the uncertainty of it. Alex - I can't take much credit for the angle, but I did have fun selecting a dramatic lighting, which was a 4 foot shop light using "daylight" tubes, turned on its side and set on the floor near her. It was theatrical! |
Wow Julie, you got quite a lot done in the 2 1/2 hours -- this turned out beautifully!
