Haugen children 40" x 30"

Painted using the client-provided reference images, and incorporating a color palette of their newly remodeled interior, this project was really enjoyable. I added two shadows on the left to represent the parents, and kept the composition off center as much to de-emphasize the gap between the children as much to emphasize the patterns of objects and shadows on the right side. As seems to be my style, I try to paint in realism and impressionism combined.... realoosism!

Linda,

It's always tough to use reference photos provided by the client, but I would say you have succeeded admirably in pulling this together. I love the children's expressions, and the feeling of light and hot sun.

Lovely brushwork here, Linda, and a gentle feeling of warm sun. Those strokes really dance around and give us a feeling of breeze and atmosphere. The concept of children building a sandcastle together is charming and natural (and sure beats my own family's hobby, burying somebody up to their neck in sand. Not really a winsome visual.).

Nice work, Linda!

Linda,

I like this painting for all the previously mentioned things and for the circular composition. When children grow up, they often loose this closeness they once had and your painting will serve them as a nice reminder how they all got along and where able to enjoy each others company.

I like the looseness and the dribbles in the paint marks, plus the colour in the shadow is lovely and rich. The quality of the paint itself is also very nice - rich amd scumbly, and has good a feeling of it being skin. I also like the light and shadow contrast helping to make up the design of the painting.

Nice work.
