Cherub too
2 Attachment(s)
This is a painting I made a couple of months ago.
I was looking at the work of my ancestor painter Cosimo Rosselli, a minor painter of the florentine renaissance. I came across this Madonna and just couldn't resist painting my son, the curly one, as one of the cherubs. I think I'll use this image as a Christmas card. Thank you for looking Ilaria |
Ilaria, what a terrific idea! As always, I love the way you handle your color and your paint, so fresh and direct.

Ilaria,
so nice to see your cherub with many wings ! Beautiful colors and nice brushwork. On my screen it looks like a fresco. Do you really speak fluently latin ? |
Ilaria, sometimes I get so involved in my work that at times I forget that I must eat and sleep. Ilaria this is a nice idea and a excellent portrait of your boy. Excellent value and hue control in the portrait as well. You continue to amaze me with your ideas and progress. I truly mean that.

-Marina, I used to love latin at school and now I poke my nose into my eldest son's latin homework all the time and he is so annoyed!
I had to write something on this canvas because just painting P. as an angel made me feel uneasy. It was a divertissment anyway, just a couple of days work. I mixed colours with a little wax, it does look a bit like a fresco also in real life. - Mischa, I wish I forgot to eat too, but it never happens! Thank you for your kind words. I am onto something good these past days, hoping to be able to post it soon. Ilaria |
Ilaria,
I ADORE this! What lovely fresh color and amazing control in the skin tones! Even though I've never met your son, I have a feeling you have absolutely caught his expression. I wish that, instead of the ubiquitous smile/grin, more artists would try to capture a look like this. I could sit here enjoying this painting for hours if I had nothing else to do. Latin was one of my favorite subjects, too. I was hoping my kids would take Latin in school, but they both opted for French instead. I think they just couldn't believe Latin would be useful, but it is, every day. |

He looks every bit the cherub, Ilaria! I agree with Alex re: the beautiful fresh skin tones. This would make a unique and special Christmas card. . . what a neat idea. :)

Ilaria,
I just love this little gem! The colors evoke a traditional italian fresco palette; I bet you intended that association. Garth |
Thank you Terri. I used a very limited palette and tried to keep skin colours on the cool side.
Thank you Garth, long time no see, I hope you are doing well. I did indeed thought about frescos, somehow more to the nineteenth century ones rather than Renaissance. Again this was a divertissment, I am glad you enjoyed. Ilaria |
