The Flamenco Dancer
 

This is 39cm x 55cm. The paper brand is "Roma" hand made by Fabriano in Italy.

I married a year ago and many a times friends asked if I have done any paintings of my wife. Well, with preparations for exhibits, commissions and not having adequate working space, I had not the chance to do a painting of her. Until now. I was rummaging through some of her old photos and found a photo from her flamenco dancing days. This was taken a few years ago a black and white photo not a real good one but it struck me with a vision. With a vision in mind I set out to create what you see here. I asked my wife to pull out the dress and shoes and I set some lights up had her stand at a desirable hight and got to work.

So, now my wife is happy. Our friends will be happy and I have another peace for my next exhibit.

For many a year have I viewed Sargent's "El Jeleo" and though much on the fact of so many figures. I guess this is my take of "El Jeleo". My version is not as dramatic as his (when my wife saw JSS version she did not care much for it but she likes my version a lot) but... Yes, some things distract from the main subject, I know. I like the feeling of involvement, the other figure, and space, the bench with candle in bottle and jug.
