Art Magazine written in French?
I was wondering if our forum participants, who live in France, know of a good French Art Magazine that is published there. I would like
to know it's name and publisher, so I can subscribe to it. After frequent visits to Paris and my inability to converse properly with the people there, I finally enrolled in a French class at the local college and have been very studious. I have several books written in French on my favorite artists, but the text is still too difficult for me to handle. So I thought an art magazine would be interesting, yet have short enough articles for me to be able to get through. Your help would be greatly appreciated! |
I did a quick search on google.fr for "journal des arts". Here are a few that look like art mags, but my French is too rusty to say for sure.
Also, looks for French podcasts, so you can brush up on listening skills. http://www.info-presse.fr/fiches/jou...ts_2298_gp.htm (they don't seem to take overseas subscriptions) http://www.artaujourdhui.com/ http://www.artsactualites.com/ http://www.essentielpc.com/b/abonnem...zine/p12076534 http://www.lefourneau.com/commun/journal98/journal.htm http://www.artclair.com/index.html |
Merci Jeff,
I went ahead and bookmarked these sites and appreciate that you took the time to look them up. I was hoping to come across something that might be more specifically geared towards oil painters and maybe even portrait artists. It looks like the sites you have found are similar to out ArtNews and cover more what is going on in the art world. So please keep suggestions coming! |
As I said, my French is very rusty. I don't even know the words for "Oil Paint". Try various phrases on Google's French site.

Hi Enzie,
I saw your post many days ago, but I couldn't reply to you because my subscription here was not validated yet... I don't know all French magazines, but I can first name two where you can find articles of artists who explain their technique. These two magazines are not specialized in oil or portraits, but there is interesting information for artists of all levels, that can be inspiring too. Both are rather interesting depending on what you are looking for. These are: - Artistes magazine http://www.info-presse.fr/revue/arti...zine_M3465.htm - Pratique des Arts http://www.pratiquedesarts.com/ There is a third one with tutorials. I have a feeling that it is mostly aimed at beginners or intermediate level readers, but I honestly can't tell. As I was searching the web, I read that this month's issue is a special one about portraits! The name of this magazine is Dessins et Peintures - Loisirs cr |
Merci Karine!
I just saw your reply and will look up the information you have provided. This should be great practice and fun at the same time! :) |
Avec plaisir ! (you're welcome!)
If you need any other information about French materials, don't hesitate to ask! I would be glad to help. Karine |
The Louvre
Enzie, one of the best, free, online resources in French for artists, although you probably have it already bookmarked:
http://www.louvre.fr/llv/commun/home_flash.jsp The search features are powerful - and the ability to travel to virtually view masters from all eras is priceless. |
Thanks Mari!
I didn't even think about the Louvre, so thanks for the link. |
