Lisa in Charcoal
 

I did this drawing from life. It's charcoal pencil on Canson Mi-Tientes Felt gray. I was hoping to capture her serene personality. Unfortunately, I was not thinking when I drew in her undershirt. The paper is stained and I can't erase it completely. Oh, well. I'll know better next time. Comments appreciated.

Kimber, very nice and fresh. I personally don't mind seeing the lines used for the undershirt, to err is human, it can add to a drawing rather than distract. If I were to offer a critique (and it may only be valid depending on the amount of time you spent) I would have liked to see more mid-tones. Somewhere in between the shadow of the face and the color of the paper, especially considering how dark then light the background is. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks, Jimmy. Here's a better photo. I'm wondering, if your critique remains the same? I have a tendency to forget the midtones, so I'm sure it is, but maybe it's not as bad as you thought? What do you think? Do I need more?

This is definitely a better picture with improved contrast, but it can still use some midtones. If you squint at it, there's mostly dark and light. The area behind her left, our right, has grays which does not appear in the skin. I believe if you introduced someof that gray tone to her skin, it would be that much better. Good luck.
