Great work, Peter. What is your medium?

Peter Jochems 04-06-2002 05:49 AM

Hi Gwen,

I use Acrylic paint for underpainting, and Oil paint for the top layer

Wow, Peter, I'm impressed. I'm the administrator and don't like to get into doing much in the way of critiques, but I had to tell you I'm quite impressed.

Peter,

Each of these pieces is extraordinarily accomplished. I'm so depressed that you've done them all before you're 30, and I'm hoping to do as well before I'm 60.

I should think that, yes, Vermeer would have been an influence, given your locale. What a treasure trove of history's greatest art is within moderate traveling distance from you.

My lifelong family friends and neighbours in my home state in the U.S. are Netherlanders. I could notify them of your work, but then they might not look at mine anymore. Still, they'd be able to read the text on your web pages, and I'm afraid I can't.

Can you share with us the kind of art training and instruction that you've had? Also, please tell us a bit about your palette, particularly the decision to work in a limited range of colour. What are your intentions and aspirations with respect to your artistic talents?

Cheers,
Steven

Hi Cynthia and Steven,

Thanks for your kind words about my work.

To answer the questions Steven asked:

I went to art school when I was 19, but I didn

Good work Peter. What school did you go to? I like the first painting the best.

Peter Jochems 04-06-2002 07:03 PM

Hi Joseph,

I went to the 'Academie voor de Beeldende Vorming' in Tilburg, The Netherlands. That's dutch for 'Academy for artistic development' (freely translated) :).

But I have to say that my real training for what I do now is the study of the old masters, after I got my degree. I didn't learn much about this kind of painting over there. But I had a good time there, looking back.

I consider the first painting my best portrait I made up till now. When I show my paintings to someone, I always show that one.

Greetings,
Peter
