Now that I have my Mac figured out and I can post an image, I am eager to post this.

This is a portrait I completed in May. The reference photo is posted in the Photo critique section under the same title.

She was a joy to paint.

This was painted prior to my two week workshop with Marvin Mattelson. I am REALLY eager to apply what I learned from that valuable experience to my next portrait. I look at this and see where I would make changes, but she has already been delivered and I can't have her back. Her parents are very pleased though, so that is good.

Thanks for looking.

Maybe I don't have my Mac figured out, this doesn't look like it should. Looks pixelized and blotchy. I'll have to try and fix that.

Janel,

She is just lovely, your best to date. Your skin tones are really improving.
Exquisite.

Janel,
I hope you can improve this reference viewing because I have seen it on your laptop and it is a beautiful painting and the contrast and color are much better than what we are seeing here.

but what really comes through in this posting is how well you have captured her sweetness and rendered this little gem. I really liked it when I saw it in Vegas!!! Your work is really getting better and better...

lap dance, napking tricks, aww, I miss Las Vegas :)

Wow, thanks!

Sharon,

You have no idea how you made my day! I really value your opinion and your reply (when the reference was posted in the photo critique section) was always on my mind.

I wasn't able to convince the mother to go with a periwinkle shirt, as you suggested, but if you can tell I did my best to introduce a little of it into the shadows. The mother loves this shirt on her so I used a periwinkle sheet to bounce that color back into her shadows. But guess what? On the day of a re-take, she showed up with no front teeth.

I did get good color reference from the second photo session to apply that color so I used the original photo for the pose and look.

Anyway, I came along way to tell you that your suggestion was a good one because everyone loves this portrait. It is hanging in our local museum right now for a local artist exhibit and getting this comment from you means a lot to me so, thanks!!

Pat,

Vegas..........ah yes, we had a lot of fun. I miss it too. We had a great group of people, didn't we? I will be going back in November, but it just won't be the same.

I will try posting this again. This compression stuff is confusing to me. Thanks for your compliment though. She really was fun to paint. That hair!!

I agree about the skin tones, she is full of life. Great job, Janel!

Janel, what a lovely job you did with her "Goldie Locks"! She is such a sweetie, congratulations - oh and also on the Mac, you will love it. ;)

Beth and Jimmie,

Thank you both so much.

I failed to mentioned that this was painted using Marvin Mattelson's palette. I have so much to learn (and how exciting that is for me) but I feel really good about the direction I have been pointed in. It sure is a boost to get positive remarks about skin tones and life. Thank you all so much. It means more than you can imagine.

Beth, how I ever survived without my Mac I'll never know. I don't go anywhere without my Mac or my Rebel.
