Cameo

1 Attachment(s)
I completed this painting a couple of months ago after re-working it several times. I finally got it the way I wanted and decided to leave it alone! The title is "Cameo" and it is 20" X 16" oil on panel.

I just received my jury card in the mail and this painting has been accepted into the 81st Annual Hoosier Salon! :exclamati It will be hung in the Indiana State Museum for the month of August and has the potential to travel around the state for six months after that. To say I'm over the moon would be an understatement. This is my first juried entry into an exhibition of this size with an oil painting and now I want to work harder on my next painting!

Julie,

Congratulations! This is a lovely example of controlled and successful texture. You have really manged some very difficult value and color transitions. So glad to have you here!

I think that every one of us is best served by working harder on our next piece - I know I am.

Julie,

Yes, congratulations! You have nerve I don't have. I have never applied to a "juried" anything. Maybe I will get the nerve.

In any case, I think the powers that be did the right thing choosing such a soft and pretty painting. I love the way you did the eyes. They seem to bring her alive. Oh, and the softness of the skin is lovely too. You go, girl!

Yipee!

Thank you Chris and Lisa!

Chris, just as so many others here, I learned so much from your book. It's still marked up with colored pencils which were my medium when I first read it. I continue to use it for a reference. Using the palette knife in the background of this painting was really fun and I'm sure I'll do it again. Thank you for mentioning the values and color transitions. They are always challenging for me but I like to think I get better at them with each painting. :)

Thanks so much Lisa for your kind words! I'll let you know how it turns out. I always appreciate your encouragement. :exclamati
