This is a very fine painting and portrait as well.

I like the rich contrasts of the values in combination with the limited color scale.

Maybe the highlights on the lower lip and cheek is a bit too much?

Thanks Allan,
As I said, I'm playing with a couple of different brands of oils. To be honest, I'm not seeing the difference or improvement I was anticipating. Contrast, Lighting? ... well, as you probably know, that's just me. As you will notice I have altered some shadows to my liking (like the forehead). Thanks for your compliment and critique.

Garth, after seeing the source, I think you did a great job playing down the lines on the forehead yet still getting the expression!
